The 107-year-old narrow gauge heritage train rout from Billimora to Waghai

    This railway route was started in 1907 during the implementation of Gaikwadi State, which was constructed to export forest products from Mumbai port. Many tourists come to Waghai by this train to go to Saputara, the famous destination of Gujarat.

यह रेल मार्ग की शरुआत सं १९०७ में गायकवाड़ी राज्य के अमल दरम्यान हुई थी, जो जंगल के उत्पाद को मुंबई बन्दर से निर्यात करने हेतु निर्माण की गई थी। गुजरात के मशहूर प्रयत्न स्थल सापुतारा जाने के लिये कई पर्यटक यह ट्रैन द्वारा वघई आते है।

The Railway Ministry had decided to close this heritage train route.
रेलवे मंत्रालय ने यह विरासत ट्रेन रूट बंद करने का निर्णय लिया था।

Bilimora to Waghai Narrow gauge train is very useful for the rural tribal peoples of the interior forest.

The Ministry of Railways had decided to cancel this railway route along with other narrow gauge railway route, expressing it as financially incompetent, but due to the simultaneous opposition of the local people and the legislators of all the parties and the historical value of this route. In view of this, the government changed its decision.      This train is a good and cheap means of transporting the tribal people of Waghai and nearby hinterland to the main city. In the time of medical emergency, it can reach Dardi to the big city as soon as possible by train.

रेलवे मंत्रालय ने अन्य नेरो गेज रेलवे मार्ग के साथ साथ यह रेलवे मार्ग को आर्थिक रूप से अक्षम जाहिर कर के रद्द करने का निर्णय लिया था, किन्तु स्थानिक प्रजा एवं सभी पार्टी के विधायको का एक साथ विरोध होने के कारण और इस मार्ग की ऐतिहासिक मूल्य को देखते हुए सरकार ने अपना निर्णय बदल दिया। यह ट्रैन वघई और इर्द गिर्द के अंदरूनी इलाके के आदिवासी प्रजा को मुख्य शहर जाने के लिए एक अच्छा और सस्ता साधन है। मेडिकल इमर्जेन्सी के वक्त यह ट्रैन से जल्द से जल्द दर्दी को बड़े शहर तक पहुँच सकते है।

Vadodara to Dabhoi narrow gauge has been converted into broad gauge. Similarly, if possible, converting this route to broad gauge and extending it up to Saputara (or even further, such as up to Shirdi, Nashik) may be the good source of income.

वडोदरा से डभोई की नेरो गेज को ब्रॉड गेज में रूपांतर किया गया है। इसी तरह, अगर संभव हो तो यह मार्ग को ब्रॉड गेज में बदल कर सापुतारा तक  (या इस से भी आगे, जैसे की शिरडी, नासिक तक) बढ़ाया जाए तो अच्छी आमदनी का स्त्रोत हो सकती है।

Smt. Darshana Jardosh - Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways & Textiles, announced the resumption of the Bilimora – Waghai narrow gauge section as a gift o­n the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, looking into the many problems faced by the tribal people and local residents in Dang district of Gujarat due to the closure of trains from a very long time because of COVID – 19 pandemic. Accordingly, Western Railway is all geared to re-start the Bilimora – Waghai narrow gauge heritage section, and the train services will resume from Saturday,4th September 2021, till further orders.
